Overview
This 3-day Primate Tracking Rwanda Safari takes you to Volcanoes National Park, renowned for gorilla trekking in Rwanda. You will journey through the rolling hills of rural Rwanda into the habitat of the endangered mountain gorillas and golden monkeys. Your safari begins in Kigali, transitioning from the urban setting to the picturesque villages of Musanze. Volcanoes National Park is home to a variety of primate species that you may encounter during your trek, along with numerous bird species and other wildlife. Additionally, you will visit the Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village, where you will gain insight into Rwandan culture, witness traditional ways of living, and have the unique opportunity to interact with former poachers who have embraced conservation efforts.
Day 1: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park, travel time +2.5 hours
Today, you will be picked up from your lodge or upon arrival at Kigali International Airport if you have a morning flight, as recommended by our guide or company representative. You will then embark on a city tour, visiting local markets and the Kigali Genocide Memorial.
After the tour, you will be transferred to Musanze, near Volcanoes National Park, where you will enjoy dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking
In the morning, after breakfast, you will embark on an exhilarating and unforgettable gorilla trekking experience in Volcanoes National Park. Upon encountering the gorillas, you will have the extraordinary opportunity to observe their behaviors and capture stunning photographs for one hour—a truly remarkable wildlife experience.
During your trek, take a moment to appreciate the breathtaking landscapes and panoramic views of the volcanoes. After descending, return to your hotel to relax and unwind after the day’s adventure. Enjoy a peaceful evening and a comfortable overnight stay at your accommodation.

Day 3: Golden Monkey and transfer to Kigali for the Airport
Today, after your warm early morning breakfast, you will be picked up by our safari driver-guide and transferred to the park headquarters for a briefing. With your packed lunch in hand, you will then set off for an exciting golden monkey trekking experience, searching for these shy primates in the jungle.
Similar to gorilla trekking, golden monkey trekking follows the same process, though it is generally less strenuous. After the trek, you will return to the lodge for lunch before being transferred to Kigali, either to your lodge or to the airport for your afternoon flight back to your home country.
