Trip Overview

The 8 days Rwanda Gorilla safari will not only take you to the famous Volcano National Park for gorilla trekking which is a lifetime experience, but will bring you as well to a close encounter with many species of wildlife at Akagera National Park, making you explore 2 of the most popular Rwandan parks. You will be staying in luxurious lodging throughout the whole trip, which is their destination. The safari will leave you with a great memory that will last a lifetime.

Day 1: Airport Transfer to your hotel.

Upon arrival at Kigali airport, you will be cheerfully and warmly welcomed by your guide, and have a transfer to Kigali Hotel for Dinner and Overnight.

Day 2: Kigali City tour and transfer to Volcanoes NP

Today after having your early morning breakfast, you will check out of the hotel and drive to visit the Kigali genocide memorial grounds, which honors the memory of the more than one million Rwandans killed in 1994 through education and peace-building. You will be able to watch and listen to some video clips from some of the survivors of the incident. Later you will embark on a transfer to Musanze around the Volcanoes National Park by waiting the next day to experience the once-lifetime experience.

Day 3: Gorilla Trekking.

Kick off your day with an early morning buffet breakfast, get all your gorilla gear set, and boots on, and be ready for the crazy adventure as you get immersed in the jungle in search of these shy mountain gorillas. Your park guides will be ready at the lodge entrance, waiting for you, so that you can start your hike to the volcanoes in search of the gorillas, as you follow the trails and at some point, go off trail amidst the bamboo to try to figure out any face. You will at last land on them, you will be allowed an hour with these primates, as you take photos and watch the juveniles play about. The whole trekking can last 2 – 6 hours depending on the gorilla movement.  You will later return to your lodge, exhausted, and lunch awaits your way. You will spend the rest of the afternoon at your leisure, as the lodge takes on some activities

Day 4: Golden monkey trekking

Today after your warm early morning breakfast, you will be picked up by our safari driver guide who will transfer you to the park headquarters for briefing with your packed lunch and start your day golden monkey trekking in search of these shy primates in the jungle. Just like the gorilla trekking experience, the same applies to golden monkey trekking though not so hectic as gorilla trekking. You will later return to your lodge for Lunch. After lunch, you will relax at your hotel or have an optional activity between Ibyiwacu Cultural Village or a Canoe ride in the twin lakes.

Day 5: Transfer to Akagera

Begin your day with a delightful breakfast and at 0800 am you will be transferred to Akagera National Park which is located in the southeastern part of the country bordering Tanzania with a beautiful drive in the countryside, with a view of the plantation and gardens of hill slopes, valleys and water bodies. You will be dropped at the park gate and picked up by a safari land cruiser van with an open top, which will transfer you to your booked luxury lodge. You will have a brief game drive as you’re welcomed by wildlife in the natural setting.

Day 6: Game drive & boat cruise.

After an early morning breakfast at 6:00 am leave for an early morning game drive in Akagera National Park to catch up with late hunters and early risers. We will be searching for big mammals like Elephants, Giraffes, Buffaloes, several Antelope species, and recently the re-introduced Lions and Rhinos. The park is a varied habitat for wildlife and several bird species with over 500 bird species in the park making it a birding paradise. You will later return to the lodge for lunch. After lunch, you head for a boat trip on Lake Ihema, watch Hippos and crocodiles in the water or by the shores, and meet the buffaloes and elephants wallowing by the water banks. Later return to the lodge for dinner and an evening stay.

Day 7: Game drive in the Akagera and night game drive

After an early morning breakfast at 6:00 am leave for an early morning game drive in Akagera National Park to catch up with late hunters and early risers. We will be searching for big mammals like Elephants, Giraffes, Buffaloes, several Antelope species, and recently the re-introduced Lions and Rhinos. The park is a varied habitat for wildlife and some bird species with over 500 bird species in the park making it a birding paradise. You will later return to the lodge for lunch. After the game drive back to the hotel for refreshments and preparing for the night game drive.

Day 8: Transfer to Kigali for your departure flight

In the morning after the relaxed morning breakfast, we embark on a transfer to Kigali to catch up on your departure flight.
