Opened in 2011, the unassuming Nyungwe Top View Hill Hotel is located just five minutes’ drive off a main road, on top of a steep hill with views across numerous tea plantations; it has easily the most beautiful views in the Nyungwe Forest area.
With its proximity to the headquarters of Nyungwe Forest National Park, it is a good base for trekking to see the chimpanzees and exploring the forest. Located so close the park headquarters and only 5 minutes away from the main road using a rough road.
The rooms.
The hotel rooms are well maintained and very spacious with private balconies which offer picturesque views. They have comfortable beds in queen and king sizes and all this just so you can find the hotel which ensures your comfort while there. Traditionally built using the local materials, rooms are well furnished.
The bedrooms are quite sparse, furnished only with a double, twin or triple beds, a chest of drawers and hanging space for clothes, but they have plenty of space and were spotlessly clean. African patterned throws cover the beds and there is traditional Rwandan ‘imigorigo’ artwork on the walls. There are no fans or air con but the team here will put hot-water bottles in your beds on cooler nights.
The lodge has a round house which houses the restaurant and bar, overlooking the beautiful gardens between the rooms. Once at the lodge, you will be amazed by the beautiful view that includes the tea plantations, Lake Kivu and the forest.
The cottages are built in 2 different locations and on each side six cottages arranged in a row 4 of these are twin cottages while the other 8 have queen size beds.
The dining and reception area occupy an impressive circular building with a tall thatched roof and traditional paintings on the walls. There is a dining area and a lounge.
Meals (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner) are covered in full board costs. You can either dine inside or outside. There is also a bar on this level made almost entirely from bottle tops, giving it a bright, very kitsch look. It really was a piece of art – almost Art Deco – and probably our favorite part of the hotel.
The child policy;
Children of any age are welcome to stay at Nyungwe Top View Hill Hotel. Young adults and children below 15 years are not allowed to trek chimpanzees. Therefore, this hotel is more appropriate for those 15 years and above.
Nyungwe top view hill hotel is the best moderate hotel where you can stay during your visit to Nyungwe Forest National Park and enjoy whatever Nyungwe has to offer for example the colobus monkeys, the chimpanzee trek, you can go bird watching since there are hundreds of them and for the very enthusiastic travelers, you can also go for the forest canopy walk. Safaris to Nyungwe National Park can be organized by Rwanda Eco Company and Safaris.
