Akagera National Park is the only flat Savannah grass lands making the place perfect for camping experience.
Camping at Akagera National Park is one of the amazing outdoor recreational activities that gives you, a great total experience of the wilderness. Akagera campsites offer you the experience that you desire in more natural ones in pursuit of activities providing you enjoyment. Generally participants leave developed areas to spend time outdoors in more natural environments in pursuit of activities which provide enjoyment.

Camping at Akagera National ParkHowever customers in the past have opted for camping not only for its recreational activity but also because it is cheap.

The Park has 3 camping sites that you should explore and they include;

The Shakani Akagera Campsite

This campsite is also found on the shores of Lake Shakani which is the only lake in the park where fishing is carried out. Camping in the area will offer you a chance to view the many hippos found in this area, some of which can even graze in the evening cool hours or at night near your camp site.

Mutamba Akagera Campsite

This area is the highest point within the entire park and it’s known for the large number of wild animals that gather there, and among are the big herds of the large elands as well as the roan antelope among others.

Camping in this area will also give you a closer meeting with the park’s wildlife and giving you a great chance for photography.

Muyumba Campsites

Situated on the ridge and it offers beautiful views over two lakes.

Lake Ihema and Lake Shakani into the nearby country Tanzania.

This is the only camping area that is close to the park gate at Kiyonza.

Each of these 3 campsites offers the toilets as well as the wash rooms for your personal use.

What you need to note here is that tap water is not safe to drink at Akagera national park. And we recommend that you boil water before drinking it or carry bottled water along side.

You can hire the tents from the reception while the firewood will also be provided, or you can as well carry your own tent and pay only ground rent.
