8 days Rwanda primates self drive adventure

This 8 days Rwanda primates self drive adventure will give you unforgettable memories of Rwanda. Over eight days, you will explore the country’s top attractions. You will visit two national parks, Nyungwe and Volcanoes, and also explore King’s Palace Museum and Lake Kivu to enrich your journey. Additionally, you will experience Kigali city, chimpanzee trekking, and golden monkey trekking for a once-in-a-lifetime adventure.

Day 1: Arrive at Kigali Airport, transfer to the booked hotel in Kigali (with Driver-Guide) Approx. 20 Min 

Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport and completing immigration, you will be welcomed by your driver-guide. He will greet you in the country of a thousand hills, brief you about the tour, and transfer you to your hotel. You can relax and adapt to your new surroundings for the rest of the day, in preparation for the rest of your 8 days Rwanda primates self drive Safari.

Day 2: Transfer to accommodation close to Nyungwe National Park (Self-Drive) Approx. 6 Hours – Rwanda primates self drive

Chimpanzee in Nyungwe on 8 days Rwanda primates self drive

After breakfast, you will drive to Nyungwe National Park. Enjoy the scenic 6-hour drive through the country of a thousand hills. Stop for lunch in Huye town and visit the King’s Palace Museum, which highlights traditional Rwandan life and the country’s royal history. On arrival at your lodge near Nyungwe, check in and rest in preparation for trekking the next morning.

Day 3: Chimpanzee trekking and canopy walk (Self-Drive)

After breakfast, you will head into Nyungwe Forest, home to 13 primate species. Receive a briefing at the park before chimpanzee trekking. Spend one hour observing chimpanzees in their natural habitat. After lunch, enjoy the canopy walk on a 70m suspended bridge, experiencing breathtaking views of the forest. Later, return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 4: Tea plantation experience and boat ride on Lake Kivu (Self-Drive) Approx. 3 Hours 

After breakfast, drive to Gisakura Tea Estate to learn tea processing. Participate in tea harvesting and enjoy a tasting session. Then, continue to Lake Kivu, stopping for lunch at Moriah Hotel in Kibuye. Take a boat ride to explore the islands, including Bat Islands, and enjoy the birdlife and scenic lake shores. Later, check in to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay, marking the middle point of your 8 days Rwanda primates self drive.

Day 5: Coffee tour and transfer to Volcanoes National Park accommodation (Self-Drive) Approx. 3 Hours 

After breakfast, check out and drive to Musanze town. Visit Cyimbiri Coffee Plantation along the way. Receive a briefing and participate in traditional coffee growing and processing. Enjoy freshly brewed coffee with local farmers. Continue to Volcanoes National Park, stopping for lunch in Gisenyi. Arrive at your lodge, check in, and relax for the evening.

Day 6: Gorilla trekking and Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village (Self-Drive) Approx. NA 

After morning coffee, prepare for gorilla trekking at Volcanoes National Park. Spend one hour observing the gorillas in their natural habitat. Return for lunch at your lodge. In the afternoon, visit Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village to experience traditional Rwandan life. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 7: Golden monkey trekking and drive back to Kigali (Self-Drive) Approx. 2.5 Hours – Rwanda primates self drive

After breakfast, meet your ranger at Volcanoes National Park for a briefing on golden monkey trekking. Spend approximately one hour observing golden monkeys. This will be the final primate adventure of your 8 days Rwanda primates self drive safari. After lunch, drive back to Kigali. Visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial if time allows. Check in at your hotel for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 8: Airport transfer and departure (with Driver-Guide)
