Overview

This 10 Days Rwanda Primate Wildlife will give you a great memory of the Rwandan tour where you explore and wrap up Rwandan attractions in just 10 days. You will be able to visit Nyungwe National Park for chimpanzee and Canopy walk, Lake Kivu, Volcanoes National Park for Gorilla trekking and Golden monkey trek, Akagera National Park for big five safaris,  Kigali City known as the cleanest city in Africa, adding in a visit to Lake Kivu to spice up your stay.  You will be able to do both gorilla and golden monkey trekking which is a lifetime adventure.

Day 1: Transfer from the airport

Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will proceed through customs and immigration before meeting our company guide, who will warmly welcome you to the “Land of a Thousand Hills,” as Rwanda is known. You will then be escorted to your booked hotel for a briefing on your upcoming 10 Days Rwanda Primate Wildlife, followed by dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 2: Transfer to Akagera National Park, travel time +2.5 hrs

Today, after your early breakfast, you will be picked up by our safari guide and leave for Akagera National Park at 8:00 am, the journey to Akagera National Park takes about 2.5 hours depending on the stopovers along the way, with the beautiful un winding landscape en route to the park, feel free to ask the guide for stopovers to capture some photos. On arrival at the park, we shall proceed to our accommodation, after a short game drive and check in,  you will then head for a boat trip on Lake Ihema to watch Hippos and crocodiles in the water or by the shores and meet the buffaloes and elephants wallowing by the water banks. Later return to the lodge for dinner and an evening stay.

Day 3: Full day Game drive and Night game drive

After your morning breakfast at the lodge, you will head off for a full day game drive sightings, and you continue with your animal searching for wildlife in the park. You may take a different route, for more encounters to explore this beautiful park. Picnic lunch will be served during the course of the day. Later in the evening, head for a night game drive, to be able to have some sightings of some nocturnal wildlife. You will later be transferred back to your hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Transfer to Kigali for the Kigali city Tour

In the morning, after breakfast, you will begin the comfortable drive back to Kigali. Upon arrival in the capital, your guide will lead you on an insightful visit to the Kigali Genocide Memorial, which honors the memory of the more than one million Rwandans killed in 1994 through education and peace-building. You will be able to watch and listen to some video clips from some of the survivors, followed by a stop at the vibrant Kimironko Market for an authentic local experience and an opportunity to shop for quality souvenirs. After the tour, you will proceed to your hotel for dinner and an overnight stay, ensuring a smooth and relaxed end to the day’s program.

Day 5: Transfer to  Nyungwe National Park with enroute museum visit

After breakfast at the lodge, you will embark on the transfer back to Nyungwe. En route, you will stop at the King’s Palace Museum, where you will gain meaningful insights into Rwanda’s rich cultural heritage and traditional royal history. Following this visit, enjoy lunch along the way before continuing the journey toward Nyungwe National Park. You will arrive at your hotel in the afternoon, giving you ample time to relax and unwind as you await dinner and your overnight stay.

Day 6: Chimpanzee Trekking & Canopy walk

Today, after your early morning cap of African coffee, you will leave your hotel to experience the natural forest of Nyungwe well known for having 13 species of primates, and transferred to the park for briefing and chimpanzee trekking. You will be entitled to one hour of finding the chimpanzees. After completing the chimpanzee trek, you will head to lunch before heading back into the forest for the exhilarating canopy walk experience, offering breathtaking views of Nyungwe’s lush environment. After a truly rewarding day, return to your hotel for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 7: Tea tour and transfer to lake Kivu for Boat Trip and relaxation

After enjoying your morning breakfast, proceed to the Gisakura Tea Plantation for an engaging and informative experience, where you will learn about the tea-growing process, traditional harvesting methods, and local production techniques. Following this visit, you will continue your journey to Lake Kivu. Upon arrival, you will embark on a scenic boat trip, offering a unique opportunity to explore several islands and appreciate the lake’s tranquil beauty. After lunch, you will be transferred to your hotel to relax and unwind as you await dinner and your overnight stay.

Day 8: Transfer to Volcanoes NP with afternoon Ellen DeGeneres Campus visit

Today, after your relaxed morning breakfast, you will check out from the lodge and begin the scenic drive to Volcanoes National Park. Upon arrival, you will visit the Ellen DeGeneres Campus of the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund, where you will gain valuable insight into the conservation initiatives, scientific research, and ongoing efforts dedicated to protecting and habituating the mountain gorillas. After this enriching experience, you will proceed to your hotel. The rest of the afternoon will be at your leisure an ideal time to relax and prepare for the following day’s thrilling gorilla trekking adventure.

Day 9: Gorilla Trekking at Volcanoes National Park

After an early morning breakfast, you will be transferred to the park headquarters. You will meet with your ranger who will brief you about the code of conduct while are trekking gorillas. You will then enter the forest in search of the gorillas. The trekking may take 2-6 hours depending on the movement of the gorillas in the jungle and your group speed as well. Meet and stay with the gorillas for a maximum of one hour. After an unforgettable experience, you will walk back to the starting point, where you will be transferred to your lodge for lunch. Following lunch, you may choose to relax at the lodge at your leisure or opt for a cultural encounter at the Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village to gain insight into Rwandan culture. Dinner and an overnight stay will be at your hotel.

Day 10: Golden Monkey Trekking and transfer back to Kigali for departure

Today, after your warm early morning breakfast, our safari driver-guide will pick you up and transfer you to the park headquarters for a comprehensive briefing. You will then begin your golden monkey trekking experience, venturing into the forest in search of these playful and shy primates. The activity follows a similar structure to gorilla trekking, though it is generally less strenuous, offering an enjoyable and engaging wildlife encounter. After the trek, you will return to the lodge for lunch and a refreshing shower. Once ready, you will proceed with the transfer back to the airport to check in for your departure flight, marking the conclusion of your memorable adventure.
