Health and safety measures for visiting Rwanda are very vital such that you can plan well your Rwanda safari. Rwanda is open for tourism, with a number of health and safety guidelines being put in place to see that the visitors are safe as well as the local community are protected in one way or the other.

For Arrival Procedures
Make sure you get in touch with your safari operator, to advise you about the quarantine. The quarantine differs as some countries are under level 4, and must be in for 7 days mandatory quarantine at their own cost at a designated quarantine hotel.
For the rest of the world, there is a mandatory 1 night quarantine, where you wait for your covid test results. The results are often very quick and the process is very efficient, as results are shared online. Keep checking online to see that you receive your results on time.
You will as well need to present a valid PCR covid test valid for 72 hours before the departure flight time from your home country. Health and safety measures for visiting Rwanda, are supposed to be observed as the country is very strict on the health measures, and are supposed to be obeyed. Do not take anything for granted, to avoid being disappointed.
Arrival Covid test
Upon arrival to Rwanda, whether you’re vaccinated with two doses or not, you will have to take an arrival covid test, this is to confirm you’re negative and safe to go to the community to avoid the spread of the disease.
If you’re found positive, you will undertake a mandatory quarantine, and medication at your own cost. You’re advised to take travel insurance to protect you from unforeseen costs due to treatment.
The arrival covid test, cost 60 dollars per person, and can be paid by cash or credit card, which is done at the airport.
Departure procedure
You will need to present a valid PCR Covid test valid for 72 hours before the departure flight time. You’re advised to take your Covid test, 48 hours prior to the flight time, such that you can receive your test results on time. There are a number of hospitals and testing centers all over the country, you can just visit one that is convenient to you for easy facilitation.
Health Procedure’s upon visiting National Parks
There are strong measures put in place for the safety of the wildlife, primates and the employees at the parks.
For the primate parks, thus Volcanoes National Park and Nyungwe National Park, you will need to present a valid PCR Covid test valid for 72 hours before visiting the park.
You will need to be wearing face masks, and often sanitize to be safe. At every point you will be required to be sanitizing for the safety of the park rangers and wildlife.
Social distancing is emphasized all the time.
When visiting Akagera National Park, you will still be required to carry a valid PCR/ Rapid Covid test for 72 hours before visiting the national park.
Cost of the Covid Test
The PCR Covid test costs 50 dollars and Rapid test costs roughly 5 dollars. The PCR tests are done from accredited hospitals all over the country while the Rapid test can be done from accredited hospitals and clinics/ health centers.

Multi day safari
In case you’re on a multiday Rwanda safari, and visiting a number of parks, you will need to know the validity to your covid test, whether it permits you to visit the park, if not, you will need to take another test at each point.
You will need to put into consideration the covid test results return time, and the visiting date. What happens when one tests positive during a safari.
You will be driven to an isolated apartment, which is recommended by the government as a convenient treatment facility. Other tests will be shortly done, and the entire cost and expenses during the facilitation, is at the client’s own costs.
In case you had not used any of your primate permit, the visit can be rescheduled and arrangements made, in relation to your stay time.
