For 1 Day Kigali Museums Tour – Dark Tourism, Your guide will pick you up from your hotel at 8:00 am, after breakfast, to begin your exploration of Rwanda’s museums. As you drive through Kigali, you will enjoy the beautiful views of the city while learning about its history and how it has grown to be recognized as the cleanest city in Africa. The tour will begin with a visit to the Belgian Peacekeepers’ Memorial, where 10 Belgian soldiers were killed and are buried.
You will then continue to the historic Hôtel des Mille Collines, formerly known as Hotel Rwanda, which played a significant role during the genocide, though it has since been fully rehabilitated. From there, the journey proceeds to the Kigali Genocide Memorial, passing through both old and new Kigali along the way.
The Kigali Genocide Memorial is the final resting place for many victims of the 1994 Rwandan genocide, laid to rest in mass graves to honor their memory with dignity. After paying your respects, you will break for lunch before driving approximately 45 minutes south of Kigali to visit the Ntarama and Nyamata Genocide Memorial sites.
These memorial centers are among the six major sites in Rwanda that commemorate the genocide. The Nyamata region, in particular, endured some of the most extensive devastation and horrifying violence against the Tutsi and moderate Hutus in 1994. At Nyamata, believed to be one of the starting points of the genocide, more than 10,000 victims were killed in a Catholic church, a haunting reminder of the tragedy.
