Since the declaration of the Covid -19 Pandemic, a series of measures to curb the spread of Covid -19 has been put in place all around the world.  In March 2020 when the first case of Covid -19 was reported, the Country imposed preventive measures in general to be observed in different sectors of life i.e. economy, education, travels and tourism. As Rwanda is a well coveted destination for tourists from all around the World, the Government of Rwanda has allowed the tourism sector to continue operating but putting in place strict measures to be followed by every stakeholder in the sector from Hotels, tour operators, Parks authorities as well as tourists. For visiting the country, a covid test is taken at arrival to the Kigali International Airport, while waiting for covid -19 results sometimes it is required to quarantine on the Government’s negotiated special rates at designated transit hotels for the 24 hours waiting period. Should a guest wish to remain in the hotel after receiving negative test results, they are welcome to extend their stay at the hotel’s applicable rates. Hotels offer airport pick up as inclusion in the negotiated rate.

Other safety measures used by Rwanda Safari Lodges to curb the spread of COVID-19 such as compulsory wearing of face masks, hand washing and practice of physical distancing. The attended lodge is requested to make sure that people entering the hotel are all screened for temperature given that temperature screening may identify people who have an elevated temperature, which is one of the symptoms of COVID-19.

Among the Safety measures used by Rwanda Safari Lodges to curb the spread of COVID-19 especially for tourists visiting the Volcanoes National Park, a covid test can be taken at the lodge by inviting a doctor at the Hotel and paying a facilitation fee. This allows visitors to have the test to use either during gorilla trekking or to be used at the airport during the flight back home without travelling further to a testing site.
