Canopy walk in The Nyungwe National Park is a memorable experience that is not found elsewhere in the whole of East Africa and the third of its kind in Africa. The canopy walk is a guided tour on a suspended bridge above the rainforest of Nyungwe National Park and it provides an exhilarating perspective on the treetops, the wildlife and the surroundings in this natural forest. Nyungwe Forest Canopy Walk Experience is performed on the 160 meters long and 70 meters high suspension, accessible as part of the guided tour along the Ishigishi trail or those hiking the Imbaraga or Umuyove trails among others in the Nyungwe National Park.

The Nyungwe Forest Canopy Walk Experience involves a slight hike as accessing the bridge is 1,2Km long from the park reception through the forest on Ishigishi trail. This hiking is very easy for even hiking starters including children.

The schedules for the canopy walk are 8:00 Am, 10:00 AM, 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM. The walk starts at the Uwinka Park Reception with a briefing to visitors about the walk and assigning a walking guide. At the UWINKA reception centre you can purchase things like raincoats, hiking boots and sticks if you don’t have them.

Apart from hiking shoes and a raincoat, when you are on your Nyungwe Forest Canopy Walk experience you should have a bottle of water and some snacks especially when you are with children and of course a camera to capture pictures of memorable moments.

Along with Nyungwe Forest Canopy Walk Experience, other activities are available to tourists including chimpanzee and colobus monkey trekking, Isumo waterfall hike, nature walk, bird watching and community visit. It can also be accessed by a helicopter whereby Akagera Aviation offers a private drop in only 45 minutes from Kigali International airport and 30 minutes from Volcanoes in Musanze Town.
