15 Days Mt Rwenzori Gorilla and Nyiragongo Hiking AdventureDay 1: Transfer from the airport to the hotel

Upon arrival at Kigali international airport and passing through the immigration process, you will be welcomed by our safari driver who will, brief you shortly and transfer you to the booked accommodation at Quiet Haven Hotel. Meal Plan; Dinner

Day 2: Transfer to Kasese

After having your morning breakfast at hotel, have a short briefing and drive to visit the Kigali genocide memorial grounds, which honors the memory of the more than one million Rwandans killed in 1994 through education and peace-building. You will be able to watch and listen to some video clips from some of the survivors’ of the incident. Later you will drive off to Kasese via Gatuna boarder and continue through Ntungamo, with vast experience of the country side adventure, beautiful view of the long horn cattle’s and banana plantations, with an en route lunch reaching Kasese in the late afternoon. Dinner and overnight stay at Sandton hotel.Meal Plan; Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner.

Day 3, Hiking Day 1: Your hikes Kicks off. Nyakalengija – Nyabitaba Hut (2650m).

Early in the morning, after having a cup of coffee, drive to Nyakalengija Trailhead (1600m). Meet porters and guides and begin hiking up to Nyabitaba hut. Walk through the matooke / Banana plantations on the side of the steep foothills, past the local Bakonjo homesteads. Continue with the trail along the Mubuku River, through landslides. After crossing the Mahoma River, climb steeply through bracken fern slopes and Podocarpus forest to Nyabitaba Hut. Dinner and Overnight at Nyabitaba Hut.

Day 4, Hiking Day 2: John Matte Hut (3350m)

From Nyabitaba follow the trail that drops down through the forest to the Kurt Shafer Bridge, just below the confluence of the Mubuku and Bujuku rivers. Passing through the bamboo forest, traverse through a long and exhausting stretch of slippery moss-covered rock. From the Nyamileju rock shelter, Mount Stanley and Mount Speke can be seen before passing into the zone of the giant heather, lobelia and groundsel. Finally reach John Matte Hut after passing through the tiring bog, for Dinner and Overnight at the Hut.

Day 5, Hiking Day 3: Bujuku Hut

From John Matte Hut the trail drops down to cross the Bujuku River and enters Lower Bigo Bog, the home of giant lobelias. Jumping from tussock to tussock, the bog is finally crossed but rarely without the feet sampling some of the freezing ooze below. The Upper Bigo bog gives way to Bujuku Lake, with views of Mt Baker to the South and Mt Stanley to the West. Bujuku Hut, well located in the shadow of Mount Baker and Mount Speke, is set in a narrow valley below Stuhlmann Pass. Dinner and overnight at the hut.

Day 6, Hiking Day 4: Elena Hut (4541m).

Leaving Bujuku, the trail takes you through more bog, while climbing the steep slopes west of the lake and through the magical Groundsel Gully as it ascends to Scott-Elliot Pass at 4372m. At the head of the gully a metal ladder takes you over a steep section after which the trail is divided into two. The trail on your right leads up to Elena Hut and Mount Stanley on a steep trail over large boulders, while the trail on your left leads to Scott-Elliot Pass and down to Kitandara Lakes. Dinner and Overnight at the Coolly and Icy Elena Hut.

Day 7, Hiking Day 5: Margherita peak (5109m).

For those aiming at reaching Margherita peak (5109m), continue to the base of the Stanley Glacier. To reach the summit of Margherita, the climb takes about 5-7 hours depending on the weather conditions and the pace of climbing this mountain. This tough walk takes you over three glaciers,

slippery rock, ice and very exposed areas which are open on many sides. Note that this climb is for only physically fit and technical climbers. Climbing on to the glaciers, cross the Stanley Plateau and proceed withthe ascent. Acclimatized to fog, altitude sickness and coolly weather, scramble up to the summit of Margherita the highest peak of the Rwenzoris. Given the high altitude and the tough conditions even if you do not reach the peak, don’t get disappointed. Prepare for you return through the Scott-Elliot pass, where there are spectacular views back to Bujuku Lake and Mount Speke, up to Mount Stanley and down to the Kitandara Lakes. After the trail that passes you through an alpine zone of sparse vegetation and rough boulders, descend past the Kitandara Lakes for dinner and overnight at the Kitandara Hut.

Days 8, Hiking Day 6:  Guy Yeoman Hut (3260m)

From Kitandara, take on the trail that ascends steeply up the headwall, spreading out from the base of Mount Baker and continuing along the south side of the mountain to Fresh field Pass. At this point you can view into the Congo to the west and Mount Stanley to the north. From the pass, take on the long trail passing the rock shelter at Bujongolo, the base camp for the historic expedition by the Duke of Abruzzi in 1906.Dinner and Overnight at Guy Yeoman Hut.

Day 9, Hiking Day 7: Nyabitaba (2650m)

Take on the path down to Nyabitaba hut. The path can be slippery and muddy and therefore requires careful balancing over the vertical mud or steep rock. Remember this is part of the adventure with in this mountain. Overnight at Nyabitaba Hut.

Day 10, Hiking Day 8: Hiking Day 7: Nyabitaba (2650m)

Descend gently down the muddy paths to the trailhead, down to the base of the mountain, have a debriefing and later depart. Finally arriving in Kasese towards in the evening, for your leisure moment. Dinner and overnight stay at Sandton hotel. Meal Plan; Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner.

Day 11: Transfer to Bwindi: Travel time +7hrs

After your relaxed breakfast, you will transfer to the southern part of the country to Bwindi Impenetrable forest known for harboring a half of world the mountain gorillas. You will have lunch en route and reach in the late afternoon. Relax as you prepare for your next day, gorilla trekking adventure Dinner and overnight at Rushaga Gorilla Haven lodge. Meal Plan; Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner.

Day 12: Gorilla trekking experience and transfer to Gisenyi (Lake Kivu). Travel time +4hrs

Early morning cup of coffee, then prepare for the briefing from the Uganda wildlife officials and thereafter enter the jungle to search the shy mountain gorillas and enjoy their life style in their real home. After meeting the gorillas, you can sit around these great apes for a whole hour gazing into their big round eyes. On a gorilla safari, a reasonable degree of fitness is required as well as walking shoes, packed food and mineral water, insect repellent, sun screen and hut. The gorilla tracking experience takes half or whole day depending on the movement of these primates. After this gorilla tracking experience in Uganda you will have informative memorable experience in life. In the afternoon, you will be transferred to Gisenyiat the showers of Lake Kivu where you will have an overnight for your next day’s hiking at your hotel as you wait for dinner and overnight at Paradise Malahide Hotel. Day 13: Transferred to Congo for Nyiragongo hike

After your early morning breakfast, you will be transferred to Congo for the Volcano hike at Nyiragongo, so that you can kick off with the adventure of hiking one of the world’s most active volcanoes with a burning larva on top. You will visit a small supermarket in Goma town to shop some bites before you proceed to start your day hike with a briefing from the park officials. You will hike to the top of the Nyiragongo Volcanos and spend a night there admiring the golden flame on top of the volcanos. It’s quite lovely on top, as you have whole night, taking pictures and enjoying the cool breeze at a higher altitude. Accommodation and overnight at a tented camp on summit of Nyiragongo.

Day 14: Descend the volcano and transfer to Kigali

After a delightful breakfast in the wilderness on top of the volcanos, you will descend down the volcanoes and by mid-day you will be in Goma town, have lunch before being transferred back to Rwanda, and transferred to Kigali, with an en route lunch along the way. You will reach in the evening, relax for dinner at Quiet Haven Hotel. Meal Plan; Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner.

Day 15: Transfer to the Airport
