How much is a Uganda gorilla permit, and how does it compare to Rwanda?
A Uganda gorilla trekking permit is currently $800 per person, against $1,500 in Rwanda. Permit pricing is set by the national wildlife authorities and can change. That gap is the main reason travelers choose Bwindi, and it is real: on a two-person trip it is roughly $1,400 back in your pocket for lodges or an extra park.
Uganda or Rwanda for gorilla trekking?
Rwanda is faster to reach, about two to three hours by road from Kigali, and the permit costs more. Uganda is a longer drive or a short flight to Bwindi, the permit is cheaper, and the forest is denser so treks tend to be tougher. Both put you an hour from a wild gorilla family. We plan both, so we have no reason to push you either way.
What is the gorilla habituation experience?
It is a Uganda-only permit that buys four hours with a gorilla family still being habituated, instead of the standard one hour. It costs more, the group is smaller, and it is the right choice for photographers and repeat trekkers. We can build an itinerary around it.
When is the best time for gorilla trekking in Uganda?
Trekking runs year-round. June to August and December to February are drier, with firmer trails through the forest. The wetter months mean muddier hikes but fewer people and better lodge rates. Tell us your dates and we will be honest about the trade-offs.
How difficult is trekking in Bwindi?
Bwindi is more demanding than Rwanda: steeper, denser, and often muddy underfoot. Treks run from two hours to a full day. Porters are available and worth taking. We match your sector and your gorilla family to your fitness rather than leaving it to chance.
How does payment work?
