Queen Elizabeth National Park is Uganda’s most visited savanna park, set between Lake Edward and Lake George in the west of the country, with the Rwenzori Mountains as a backdrop.

Tree-climbing lions and the Kazinga Channel

The park’s southern Ishasha sector is famous for lions that rest in fig trees, while the Kazinga Channel, which links the two lakes, supports one of the world’s largest concentrations of hippos and is best explored on a boat cruise.

Diverse habitats and birdlife

From savanna and crater lakes to forest and wetlands, Queen Elizabeth holds more than 600 bird species, the highest of any Ugandan park. Chimpanzees can be tracked in the dramatic Kyambura Gorge.

Getting there

The park is around six to seven hours by road from Kampala or Entebbe and is commonly combined with gorilla trekking in nearby Bwindi.
