Day 1: Transfer from the airport to the hotel
Upon arrival at Kigali international airport and passing through the immigration process, you will be welcomed by our safari driver who will, brief you shortly and transfer you to the booked accommodation at Quiet Haven Hotel. Meal Plan: Dinner
Day 2: Visit Kigali genocide memorial & transfer to Musanze: Travel time +2 hrs
Today after taking your early morning breakfast, you will checkout of the lodge and drive to visit Kigali genocide memorial grounds, which honors the memory of the more than one million Rwandans killed in 1994 through education and peace-building. You will be able to watch and listen to some video clips from some of the survivors’ of the incident. Later you will proceed with a drive to Musanze through the magnificent route to your booked accommodation to catch up with the late lunch and later spend the rest of the afternoon relax and prepare for the next day’s trekking or visit the Diane Fossey institute if time permits. Dinner and overnight stay at Da Vinci Gorilla Lodge. Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner.
Day 3: Hike Mount Bisoke
Today, you will be driven to the park headquarter at Kinigi at 7:00 am upon having your breakfast for briefing and you will later head off for Mount Bisoke hiking. The hike will typically take a full day from 6 to 8 hours depending on your hiking experience. During the climb, you will cross a series of different vegetation habitats starting with bamboo forests, then moving into Hagenia – Hypericum forest and finally moving through Senecio – Lobelia bush near the summit. You will carry your packed lunch with you and some energy drink as well. You will later return in the afternoon and drive to Lake Kivu, where you will spend the afternoon at leisure. Dinner and overnight stay at Da Vinci Gorilla Lodge. Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner.
Day 4: Transfer to Congo.
After your relaxed morning breakfast in your hotel in Musanze, you will be picked by your guide and transferred to Congo via Musanze with a great en route drive. Arrive at Grande Barriere border crossing at 11:30 and ensure check-in with Virunga tourism office by 13:00. The tourism office is conveniently located in the Grande Barriere border post building, opposite passport control. You will receive volcano trek permits at check-in which must be presented at the start of each trek. Once check-in is complete, you will be transported to Kibumba Tented Campfor your dinner and overnight stay.
Day 5: Go Gorilla Trekking
After an early breakfast at Kibumba Tented Camp, you will head down the hill to meet their Ranger guides and have a briefing before the gorilla trek. Treks usually require 1-2.5 hours of hiking each way, depending on location of the gorilla group being trekked and the difficulty of the terrain. After spending the allotted hour with the gorilla family group, you will make your way back to camp, enjoy a late lunch and have the rest of the day at leisure, including time for nature walks and bird watching. Dinner and overnight stay at Kibumba Tented Camp. Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner.
Day 6: Hike Nyiragongo Volcano
After a lovely breakfast in Kibumba, guests will be transported to the Kibati Ranger Post at 8:15am, departure point for the Nyiragongo volcano trek. On arrival to Kibati, you will receive a briefing and will have the opportunity to hire porters, in case you need one. The climb up the volcano will take around four to six hours depending on the fitness of the guest, and the hike is at the pace of the slowest person in the group, so as to go as a group with no one left behind and trekkers will overnight on the summit, with a great view of the burning active volcano. Dinner and overnight stay at the summit.
Day 7: Descend the Volcano & transfer to Rwanda
In the early morning, guests will leave the crater rim and start the descent back to Kibati. Average descent time is four hours. Once at the bottom, you will be transported back to Goma via the Grande Barriere to Kigali, with an en route lunch in the local restaurant along the way to your booked hotel in Kigali at Quiet Haven Hotel. Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner.
Day 8: Transfer to the Airport
Early morning breakfast and depending on your flight time, you will be transferred to the airport to catch up with your flight back home. End of service! Request a Quote
