Your day itinerary
Your guide will pick you up early in the morning from your hotel in Kampala or Entebbe after breakfast, and you’ll embark on a journey to Mabamba Swamp, a prime location for bird watching. Mabamba Swamp is renowned as the best place to spot the rare Shoebill stork. The drive to Mabamba takes approximately one hour via the Nakawuka-Kasanje route.
Upon arrival, you will begin a half-day private boat excursion through the wetlands, which are teeming with a diverse array of bird species. A guided canoe ride through the papyrus swamp will take you to the ideal spot for observing the Shoebill, as well as other rare African birds. These may include the Malachite Kingfisher, Swamp Flycatcher, African Purple Swamphen, African Water Rail, Common Moorhen, Lesser Jacana, African Jacana, African Pygmy Goose, White-faced Whistling Duck, Squacco Heron, Blue-breasted Bee-eater, and Saddle-billed Stork, among others.
Throughout the day, you will immerse yourself in bird watching, with a focus on finding the elusive Shoebill. On a fortunate day, you might witness these majestic birds hunting for food in their natural habitat. After your birding adventure, you will return to your hotel, where your guide will drop you off.
